Among the oils used by earlier generations as home remedies for common ailments, Aceite de Manzanilla is probably the most widely used. Many thoughts that the oil is extracted from Manzanilla olives but the fact is, it comes from the well-known herbal plant chamomile. The name manzanilla only come about after Spanish botanists described its scent to be the same as an apple’s. Thus, they called it manzanilla or “little apple”. Chamomile is a low perennial plant found in dry fields but can also be cultivated in gardens. Its flowers and leaves were widely used by the Spaniards and introduced into different parts of Europe during the middle Ages.

In ancient mythologies, chamomile extracts were added to baths to attract love, while its leaves and flowers were burned to induce sleep and promote a relaxed state of consciousness, advocates of herbal medicine list chamomile as an analgesic, antiseptic, antispasmodic and diaphoretics.
