Look for signs of readiness, such as when your child says “wee wee” or “go Poop.” Ideally, children should be “dry by day at 2 years old and dry by night at 3 years old. Research shows that children below 18 months are still physically incapable of bladder control necessary for potty training.

Other signs of readiness to watch out for: your child is over 18 months; he shows awareness of having a bowel movement, such as going very quiet, stopping play and saying “poo poo”, he understand simple instructions; and he can concentrate on one task for at least 5 minutes, such as playing with a toy or reading a book. One thing Filipino parents seem to hesitate doing early is weaning baby from the bottle-feeding until the ripe old age of 4 to 5 years old. Their main concern is that weaning from bottle to cup reduces milk consumption.
